Our shop sits just west of Kentwood on 54th Street SW, a few minutes from the city line, so this is genuinely local work rather than a city we happen to list. Kentwood is also the most mixed city in our area in building terms, running from 1960s subdivisions through large apartment and condominium developments to newer commercial space, and each of those needs something different.
The bulk of Kentwood's single-family housing went in across those decades. Most of it is on its second or third HVAC system, which means the interesting question is rarely the furnace itself. It is whether anyone has looked at the ductwork, the return path, or the thermostat location since the house was built.
Kentwood carries a lot of apartment and condo stock, where equipment is often packed into a closet or a shared mechanical space with minimal clearance. Replacement there is constrained by what will physically fit and by what the association allows, not only by what is on the truck.
Retail and office space in these corridors mostly runs on packaged rooftop equipment. That work rewards scheduled maintenance over emergency calls, because a rooftop unit that fails in August takes a business offline rather than just a living room.
Kentwood gets the standard inland West Michigan pattern: sustained winter cold with lake-effect snow, and humid summers. Its newer, tighter construction holds conditioned air better than older stock, which helps efficiency but makes ventilation and indoor air quality more of a live question than it used to be.
